All Maywood members aged 55 or over are eligible for free membership of the Seniors’ Section and may play in Seniors’ Competitions.
The Seniors’ Section is an extremely friendly and very active part of the Club with over 100 members, 60-70 of them being regular players
The section is managed by its own elected committee.
Players of all abilities are welcome to join us. Our membership includes a full range of players, with handicaps from 28 to single figures.
COMPETITIONS
There are 11 club competitions, played in a variety of formats, throughout the summer, these take place on Tuesday mornings.
There is an entry fee of £2, payable on the day of competition. There is also a voluntary professional’s sweep (£1)
Points awarded for success in these competitions are used to form an Order of Merit, for which the winner receives a trophy
To enter, put your name on the entry sheet provided on the Seniors’ board. The Competitions Secretary will allocate your tee time and playing partners.
Trophies are presented to the winners of most competitions. There are also prizes in the form of vouchers to be spent at the pro shop.
Two other big attractions are the Maywood Seniors’ Open and the Senior Captain’s Away Day. The Open attracts a large entry from 30 or more clubs and has a prize table worth in excess of £1,000
During the summer we run both Singles and Pairs Knockout Competitions, for which there are small entry fees
There are 11 competitions during the winter. These are also played on Tuesday mornings. Arrangements for entries, fees and prizes are the same as for those in the summer.
We also run a Winter League (Pairs Match Play). This usually operates from late October until the end of March. Each pair normally plays 8-10 matches.
CLUB MATCHES
The Seniors play friendly matches against eight other clubs on a home and away basis.
Matches are usually in the form of Pairs Match Play. Teams are usually of 12 players. There is a fee of £8-10, payable on the day of the match, and a meal is included.
Those wishing to play put their names on a list provided on the Seniors’ board. The Captain selects the team from the list of volunteers.
TUESDAY IS SENIORS’ DAY
When there is no competition we still gather on Tuesday mornings for less formal golf. Most players tee off between 8.00 and 9.30 a.m. with some playing in a “£1a corner” Stableford. Many of us also meet on Thursday mornings for informal golf.
AND AFTERWARDS……..
Seniors’ golf at Maywood is very competitive without being too serious
We pride ourselves on being a most welcoming and sociable group, which strongly supports the Club. Post-golf socialising is important to us, providing, as it does, plenty of friendly banter and many highly amusing senior moments.
The Seniors’ End of Season Dinner and Social is a highlight of the Maywood social calendar, with good food and fun and games for all.
When it comes to really enjoyable golf, life begins at 55!.
